I WANT TO BE A DJ
DJ-laboratory

A project which that was a part of the exhibition “ TOTALLY MOTIVATED – a sociocultural manoeuvre“ at Kunstverein München. By Bjargey Olafsdottir (Reykjavik) in collaboration with International Deejay Gigolos.
It took place on Friday 21 March 2003, 2–9 pm at the Kunstverein München. Posters were put up in record stores in Munich and e-mails and sms were sent out to get young innovative DJ-s into the Kunstverein.
The messages were something like these:
ARE YOU A BEDROOM DJ? COME TO THE KUNSTVEREIN, BRING YOUR RECORDS/CDs, PLAY THEM AND HAVE FUN! THIS IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY! MEET OTHER DJs AND MUSIC LOVERS FROM THE MUNICH MUSIC SCENE! EXPERIMENT! NOW IS YOUR CHANCE TO GET OUT OF YOUR BEDROOM AND PLAY!
The Kunstverein transformed into a DJ-laboratory and DJ-workshop. This project gave DJs and music lovers the opportunity to get together, meet and exchange in a different context than in a nightclub. Professionals met amateurs and amateurs met professionals to learn from each other! The artist Bjargey Olafsdottir is a music lover of electronic/techno music herself and is fascinated by the Munich DJ-scene. For her DJ-event at the Kunstverein she got support from DJ-Hell and his record label Gigolo Records. Some of the DJ’s connected to the label performed in the project at the Kunstverein.
